September 2004 Monday Morning Minute

Get Out of Your Way

On November 3rd, I will be releasing my first CD, “Meditation in the Workplace.” Can you see me dancing around my office singing? “Yipee! Yipee!” The 10-month journey from idea to end product has been fun, adventurous, and sometimes downright frustrating. What have I learned on the road to manifestation? It has been a huge lesson in getting the heck out of my own way!

Let me explain what I’m talking about. It is natural to want to grow and evolve your work and your life. As a part of being human, we innately want to thrive and learn new ways to adapt. The challenge is overcoming the obstacles while keeping your passion and inspiration intact. If you’re human like me, you sometimes operate under the ridiculous illusion that you are smart enough to figure out all the answers by yourself.

Think for a moment about the top three challenges in your business life right now. Whether it’s interacting with a client or co-worker, negotiating for a raise, navigating office politics, or pursuing greater profits, there is only one common denominator among all the problems you face. Yes, I ‘m speaking about the person wearing your underwear.

If you are reading this email, then you likely want to live an unstoppable life, one where you can find clarity, move into action, and manifest your dreams. But what if you are stuck?  What if life is giving you lemons and, instead of making lemonade, you’re thinking about picking them up and throwing them at the people around you?

Here is the number one, hands–down, quickest way to creating the life you want: Burst the ego bubble that insists you can figure it all out on your own, and start looking for people who can support, inspire, and encourage you.

We all have blind spots in our view, and without the help of other people, you will continue full-steam ahead and run into the same all-too-familiar walls.

A quick and simple way to determine who can support you is to use the diagram below and place a friend, professional, or community in each piece of the pie. Then comes the tough part; pick up the phone, ask for help, and get yourself out of your way.

Creating Your Team
Place the name of a friend, professional, or community that can support you in each piece of your life.
