Lost Your Laugh (118 Seconds)

Have you become a Significant Sally or Serious Sam and life is no longer about having fun?

You may be feeling like this is a serous time which requires serious people to perform serious acts.

On Friday I received a dose of seriousness.

I found out my daughter’s daycare will be closing in the next 25 days.  Who thought such simple news could drop a grown man to his knees in tears.  My wife and I have just bought a home in the neighborhood, so my daughter would not have to switch teachers or communities.

I had my head buried in my hands feeling the tears roll down my face when I remembered what a friend just recently shared with me.

"I made plans and the Universe laughed!" -Anonymous

This simple phrase put a huge smile on my face and reminded me no matter how serious we become or how hard we try to control our environments, change is inevitable.

I wondered how many people like me could benefit from remebering this and getting a good chuckle or a giggle this week.

Laughter is good medicine and, in addition to helping us cope with change, laughing removes stress hormones, and boosts immune function by raising levels of T-cells, disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon, and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying antibodies.

If the medical jargon is all gobbledygook to you, then just remember to find your laugh.

What if you’ve lost your laugh?

  1. Start by adopting a rule to not take yourself too seriously
  2. Find things in life that are funny
  3. Go back to step 1

If you need some fuel for your laughter fire, I recommend this email my wife sent out to our family and friends last week regarding Sierra’s new found language skills.

Wishing you all a happy and laughter filled Monday,

Jason
