Fear Things First (99 Seconds)

Are you feeling overwhelmed and having a difficult time prioritizing your to-do list?

You may find yourself working more hours, but feel as though you are getting less done.  You’ve tried getting to work earlier or leaving later; however it doesn’t seem to be making a dent in your workload.

Perhaps you are avoiding the to-do’s you fear the most?

My mastermind buddy Adam Kayce recently shared with me his struggle to be more productive with the high priority items during his day when he remembered a childhood story.

He remembered sitting at the table with his parents who said he couldn’t leave until he had finished all his vegetables.  Because he was not a big fan of veggies, he saved them until last; however each meal he dreaded, knowing it would end with the unpleasant taste of a pea or broccoli.

One day Adam realized, if he ate his peas first, he could enjoy his meal and end it in a savory way.  Each meal he would sit down, scarf down his veggies, then proceed to thoroughly enjoy the rest of his food.

Like Adam, you may be waiting to do the things you fear the most.  This may have you feeling drained and frustrated by the end of your day.   Or you may be avoiding doing the thing you fear the most altogether, leaving you embarrassed and disappointed.

This week I invite you to eat your veggies first.  Block off the first hour of each workday to tackle the calls and to-do items you fear the most and then allow yourself to relish the satisfaction of thoroughly enjoying the remainder of your business day.

Wishing you a Happy Monday,

Jason
