In This Issue: ---- Part 2 –*Click Here For The Best Business Expense Ever* My 2 Year Old Teacher (145 seconds) Recently my wife, Jeri, and I have transitioned our daughter, Sierra, from a crib to a big girl bed. The adjustment was smooth sailing for a few weeks, but then a week ago, we would tuck Sierra into bed and she would wait until we left the room and then get up, open her door and walk into the living room. This repeated not once, not twice, but up to seven times in an evening. After asking my parents and other trusted parenting sources, I realized we needed to set some added boundaries with Sierra. So, four nights ago I explained with detail that if Sierra wasn’t tired she could stay in her room, however if she opened the door she would then get a timeout where I would be holding and helping her body. From the past I knew Sierra did not like this technique and I was hoping she would choose to remain in her room. To my happiness and surprise this worked for the past three nights. Then last night I put her to bed explained the rules and walked out. Within seconds of my exit I heard the door open. I firmly reminded her that she would now have a time out and I embraced her in my arms. Now my daughter isn’t typically the snuggling type and so I was quite shocked when I felt her sigh and rest into my body. As I held her close I felt her relax into my hug and I knew she needed some extra daddy time. I took her back into her room, tucked her in and asked her in a quiet voice what she needed to feel safe and remain in her room. She looked me in my eyes and clearly stated “Patience Daddy Patience.” Now my daughter just turned two and I had no idea she even knew the word patience. I took a deep breath and shared with her that I needed patience too. This week if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed in your workplace or you are discouraged with an unforeseen obstacle, heed the words of a small yet wise two year old and give yourself and others the gift of a little patience. Wishing you all a Happy Monday, Jason |
