Weathering the Storm (160 Seconds)

This past week I was on vacation with my family in Maui.  One morning I got up early to enjoy the sunrise and watch the waves crashing upon the shore. I observed their power and violence. It reminded me of the times I have been scuba diving in rough waters. It doesn’t matter what sort of storm is brewing on the surface, deep within the water there is always stillness.

Isn’t it interesting how see the patterns of our life in our natural surroundings.

Remember the last time you got plugged into the rough water on the surface of your sea.  Perhaps your stormy weather was a disagreement with a friend, client or colleague.  And just like those waves crashing upon the shore, the words between you and another became heated and intense.  And you found yourself in stormy weather.

This is why a daily practice to remember that stillness and quietness within you is so important.  With a consistent practice you can bring awareness to a storm  brewing in your life experience and dive into a deep and quiet place of safety within you.

Although we all know some quiet time to refuel and recharge is important; it is not always easy to make it happen.  A while back I realized that although I teach meditation courses, I was personally struggling with my meditation practice.  So I took a look at what I was not willing to do without during my day.

It took me all of 30 seconds to realize I love email and I automatically open my email first thing in the morning.  I decided to give myself permission to read my email if, and only if, I had already done my meditation practice.  Guess what--- it worked.

With a regular practice, which for you may be meditation, yoga, a morning walk, or an inspirational reading, you are able to see the heated and intense conversations coming.   You can learn how to hold your center during the storm. If the communication gets too intense, you can politely say that you need to return to this conversation when you are in a more centered place, instead of trying to wage an all out battle.

Special Assignment

Email me and let me know what daily practice you will be doing this week.  Remember, with a little bit of practice, we all can find that still, quiet space deep within ourselves.

Wishing you all a happy Monday,

Jason
