How to Break the Rules and Live Live Live ( 110 Seconds)

Ever been afraid to break the rules?  Sure you have-- whether it’s following the industry standards, working 9 to 5, or only taking a few weeks off every year. You have been taught that there is a right and wrong way to do business and you better be following the right way.

But you didn’t always follow the rules did you?  Remember the first time you disobeyed your parents and stayed up all night?  You knew you were supposed to be sleeping like the rest of the world, but there you were sneaking around the house breaking the rules.  You weren’t supposed to and it felt great and exciting. 

Do you know why breaking the rules is exciting?  It is because it challenges existing beliefs.  Each rule you have ever broken has given you freedom. There is excitment and liberation when making up your own rules and creating a realm of endless possibility. 

What if Rosa Parks never sat in the back of a bus or if Bill Gates didn’t quit Harvard in his junior year?  Without breaking the rules we would eventually become like computers with automatic responses; never knowing what we were completely capable of because we were so afraid to do things differently.

So what if you have forgotten how to be a daredevil?

Imagine being that child again.  Just the other night my daughter encouraged me to eat without my fork, so in turn, I encouraged her to eat without her hands.  There we were gobbling down spaghetti face first!

And what about in your business?  Take some time this week to question where you are viewing things as right and wrong in business and go ahead and break a rule….or two.
