The Quickest Way to Get Your Needs Met (123 Seconds)

Have you been wondering how to get your needs met?

You keep trying to fill your needs with things to do and places to go, but somehow these events are just not filling your void.  It’s more like eating a low fat doughnut.  You are chewing on it and swallowing, but as it hits your stomach you wish you had eaten a huge chocolate éclair with Bavarian cream filling instead.

So, if a substitue isn't hitting the spot, then I recommend you try an endless supply of adventure and nourishment by creating a true friendship.

What do I mean by “true?”

Well, make a friend that gets a free ‘Get Out of Jail’ card.  No matter what they do or what they say, it’s all great.  You see them for their greatness and on the rare times that they upset you, you clearly share with them why and move forward.

I have a friend like this who consistently meets my needs and his name is Kenny.  For the past several years we have supported one another.  Through cancer, divorce, death of a bunny, first baby, first home, Providence and Marylhurst, we have continued to support and nourish one another through times of sorrow and celebration.

This past Saturday Kenny was sick and I was tired.  Our normal routine of hiking and talking was pleasantly changed to a day spa salt scrub and sushi.  It was a day for Kings and our need for self care was complete.

So here is the long and short of it.  Make time to nourish a friendship that will fill your need in times of greatness and times of loss.

If you are not sure where to begin, start where Kenny did many years ago, when he turned to me and said, “Hey Jason I’m looking for a real friendship where I can trust another person and just show up and be myself --- Are you in?”

Wishing you a Happy Monday,

Jason
